CLUB HISTORY
Worcester Dominies and Guild is located half a mile from Worcester city centre and was formed in 1994 with the merger of Dominies CC and the Cathedral Guild CC.
The Cathedral Guild had a history dating back to the 19th Century and moved to the present ground, owned by the Dean and Chapter of Worcester Cathedral, in 1959.
Dominies Cricket Club was formed in 1948 to provide fixtures for local teachers and was nomadic in its early years. The club secured its first seemingly secure base in 1977, however, seven years later the land was sold. Throughout this period, Dominies continued to be successful on the field in an active, well organized, family orientated club. The club then moved to an adjacent ground but failed to secure a long lease. In 1994, both Dominies and The Cathedral Guild realized a merger would be beneficial to keep both clubs alive.
Worcester Dominies and Guild C.C. now field a 1st XI and 2nd XI on Saturdays throughout the season, both of which play in Division 3 South in the Worcestershire League. On Sundays we also field a team which partakes in friendly games against local sides.
In order that the club prospers, it is essential that the youth section is nurtured. After drawing players living locally and attending local schools, the youth section has continued to be successful. The club has won U13, U14 and U15 county cups and leagues in one season, and in 2003 represented The Midlands, West and Wales in the National U13 final, winning the ECB Spirit of Cricket Cup. We have run teams for U10’s through to U16’s and have county representatives in all age groups, both in boys and girls teams. Worcester Dominies and Guild provided over half the players in the winning Worcestershire Girls U15 County League National Championship in 2002.
With a large number of the club, senior and junior, either living or going to school locally, the club truly reflects the local diverse population.
