Dominies & Guild CC U.16’s Reach Midlands Regional Final
By Merv Miles
D & G u16’s had already beaten Bedworth, Wombourne & Evesham to reach finals day at Harbourne CC. Unfortunately rain wrote off any chance of play leaving the 2 semi-finals to be re-arranged, the Worcester side being drawn away to Swindon CC.
Skipper for the day Chris Miles won the toss and asked the home team to bat first. Opening bowlers Steve Miles and Andy Wilks gave D&G the start they wanted returning figures of 1-17 and 1-13 off their 4 overs. The u.15 pair of Adam Hunaban & Liam Gwynne continued the good work with 0-25 & 1-29. Luke Bantock completed the bowling with 1-17. D & G’s U14’s Richard Dawes, Rhodri Williams & Will Dudall, stepping in as last minute replacements, performed well in the field.
Swindon’s innings closed on 113-6 off 20 overs, top scorer was Sean Cadwallader with 56.
D&G’s reply started very slowly, reaching only 13-2 off 5 overs, when Steve Miles came out to join brother Chris in the middle. Steve & Chris then took the initiative with a combination of quick runs and some powerful stroke play. A huge 6 over long from Chris won the game by 8 wickets with 4 overs in hand, 102 runs coming off only 10 overs. Steve Miles finished on 39n.o. and brother Chris top scored on 57n.o.
D&GCC u16’s now go through to the grand final where they will meet either Leamington CC or Hinckley CC on September 17th at Halesowen.
UNDER 14's SEASON REPORT - 2006
It was a mixed season for the Under 14's, winning four and losing four. We reached the quarter final of the Under 14's cup competition, losing out to Himley Cricket Club.
The highlight of the season was beating the all conquering Ombersley CC by an impressive 8 wickets. It only goes to prove that the talent is there when we want to win badly enough.
Congratulations to Will Duddell for his maiden fifty for the club. Lets hope that it's the first of many. Also, acknowledgement should go to Adam Hunaban, Jamie Colburn and Chris Holtom for their consistent bowling performances.
